PlayStation players can now update their PlayStation Network ID. This feature has been expected for quite some time since it was announced by Sony in October. However, your choice to change your PSN name has some limitations.
PSN’s online ID change feature is only available for games “released as of April 1, 2018,” but the company cautions that it doesn’t guarantee all games “support this feature.” According to Sony, at least 10 games had “serious bugs” as a result of the renaming, including games published by Sony like Everybody’s Golf, LittleBigPlanet 3, and several MLB games The Show. These critical bugs include the loss of PlayStation Trophys or the in-game currency of those games.
Other games that don’t fully work with this feature include Bloodborne, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Grand Theft Auto 5, The Last of Us, NBA 2K19, and Warframe. The problems associated with these games are less severe, like showing old IDs and returning the game to its default state.
The full list of games that have been tested or have problems with PSN renaming can be viewed on the PlayStation website.
Redeem your first PlayStation Network ID for free. Sony will charge $9.99 for each name change thereafter (PlayStation Plus users will only pay $4.99). More details on this feature can be found on the PlayStation Blog.
