Nintendo will now sell Switch without Dock

When the Nintendo Switch first launched, Nintendo believed that it was a console that players could take with them everywhere, rather than just a portable game console that could be displayed on a TV screen. It doesn’t seem like the company will stop pushing the Switch as a home console, but it’s also gradually accepting that some players prefer to take the console. This is evidenced by the fact that Nintendo is selling the Switch without a dock.

In Japan, the company has started selling a Switch bundle called the Switch 2nd Unit Set, which does not include a TV dock. The set costs around $226 and includes the Nintendo Switch and two Joy-Con controllers with straps, but it doesn’t come with the Joy-Con Grip, HDMI cord, or AC adapter (though it can still be charged via USB-C cord). The set is $45 cheaper than the all-inclusive Switch version, which makes it appealing to busy, on-the-go people.

Ever since this console came out, people wondered when Nintendo would release the Nintendo Switch Mini version. The Mini version will be smaller and lighter than the current version and will be sold without a dock. It will be the right choice for gamers with limited budgets and those who are willing to give up TV features to buy at a cheaper price. It seems that Nintendo has no intention of releasing the Switch Mini at the moment, this kit without the dock seems to be the second optimal choice, helping players save quite a bit of money.

Lowering prices could help Nintendo sell more Switch consoles. While the company has had no problems with previous Switch sales, the cheaper version is sure to appeal to gamers who don’t have a lot of money.

Additionally, by selling the Switch with fewer items, Nintendo can avoid shortages. In general, the company will not have to produce more Dock, AC unit, HDMI cord if the hardware is cut. At this point, it’s unclear if Nintendo will sell the set outside of Japan, we’ll just have to wait and see.
