Nintendo Points can be used to pay for Online services

This redemption feature was announced by NintendoLife. According to Nintendo’s FAQ (FAQ), gold points can be used to purchase memberships on Nintendo Switch Online through the eShop. It should be noted that this point can only be used to purchase membership for the first time. The self-renew (auto-renew) option for this service is currently unavailable.

Players can earn points by purchasing eligible products on Nintendo.com or the eShop on Nintendo Switch. Products that are eligible for distinction on sales pages include full game downloads and DLC packs. The standard gold point system gives 5% of the amount on eligible payments, which means a $60 game will give you $3 in gold. Therefore, if you want to buy a year of Nintendo Online membership ($19.99 USD), you need to spend about $400 on qualifying payments on eShop or Nintendo.com

The Nintendo Online Service is finally here, and the addition of options for fans to “save” money is commendable. Being able to use online services at no extra cost is a good thing, but the risk of losing your cloud save data if the membership expires is much more frightening.
