When the popular streamer Ninja announced that he was leaving Amazon’s Twitch stream platform to join Microsoft’s Mixer, many people wondered what made him come to this decision. There’s money involved, of course, but it seems Tyler “Ninja” Blevins has other motivations as well.
Recently, while streaming, Blevins commented on speculations regarding his joining Mixer. While the exact contract between Mixer and Ninja is unknown, some believe it must be worth at least $5 million per year to keep Ninja on the platform. However, Ninja said money was not the motivation for him to switch to Mixer.
Between Fortnite matches, Ninja watched a YouTube video highlighting his own moments on Twitch. Among them was Ninja’s Fortnite stream with Drake – breaking many records on Twitch and attracting a lot of attention. Suddenly, the video changes to the Mixer logo that pours out a lot of money for Ninja. At this point, Ninja stopped the video.
Apparently this video was made to mock him. He understands what people think about his decision to join Mixer and while not specifically, Ninja implicitly insists that money is not the motivation.
With Ninja’s success on Twitch as well as his massive sponsorship, we can see money is no longer the main driving force behind him. With an estimated income of millions of dollars just from subscriptions, Ninja has plenty of money to take care of himself and his family without having to worry about anything. If he had lived so comfortably, I wonder what Mixer actually offered Ninja to convince him to leave Twitch.
The most likely answer is that Mixer wants Ninja to be the face of the platform, like he was with Twitch before, but only for a short time. Streamers like Tfue, Shroud, and Dr. Disrespect is constantly vying for the top spot on Twitch, but at Mixer there’s no one to match Ninja. He’s already broken Mixer records – thanks in part to his free subscription – and he certainly has bigger plans for the future, too.
Even so, we still have to admit that Ninja certainly received a large amount of money, enough for him to bet on quitting Twitch to go to Mixer. Maybe that wasn’t his main motivation, but from a business perspective, Ninja was secured a financially sound future thanks to Microsoft.
