Square Enix recently announced that after ten years of a PlayStation 3 exclusive launch in Japan only, Nier Replicant Coming to Steam soon. The re-release and trailer were announced during NieR’s tenth anniversary livestream.
This version is officially called Nier: Replicant ver.1.2247448739, a very long title but certainly suitable for the strange RPG world of director Yoko Taro. Square Enix says NieR Replicant has been redeveloped to fit the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms. The game will appear on Steam at launch, but there is no specific release date and NieR Replicant’s Steam page is not yet active.
However, there are plenty of reasons why fans are excited about the Replicant re-release. NieR’s timeline is a nightmare, both in terms of story continuity and release schedule, where Replicant is an exclusive version of NieR Gestalt (commonly known as ‘Nier’) in Japan, it is also a sequel to 2003 Drakengard.
NieR Gestalt features the older and more experienced Nier along with the story of the character’s quest to find a cure for his daughter. Replicant takes place in the same world, but this version turns Nier into a kind, young boy who is looking for a way to save his sister.
Next comes the weird third-person action RPG, NieR: Automata. Square Enix says this version of the Replicant will be upgraded and include a new voiceover among the improvements. The studio worked with Toylogic developer, veteran director Yoko Taro, and producer Yosuke Saito, who also collaborated with Taro on NieR: Automata.
