Misery was kicked out of Evil Geniuses shortly after ESL One Birmingham

Evil Geniuses have decided to part ways with captain Rasmus “MISERY” Filipsen after they became the first team to be eliminated at the 2018 Dota 2 ESL One Birmingham tournament.

Misery joined Evil Geniuses in mid-December last year. Since his arrival, the team has failed to reach the top 4 in any Major and has only won one Minor. The poor performance has put a lot of pressure on the players as this season is coming to an end and EG is looking for a Dota Pro Circuit title to be in the top 8 of the rankings, attending TI8 live. Despite struggling and losing several qualifiers this year, EG is still invited to tournaments, including the recent ESL One Birmingham Major and the upcoming China Super Major.

For the past week in Birmingham, EG were in the same group as Virtus.pro, Fnatic, Team Spirit and needed to finish second in the group to make it to the playoffs. However, after the inaugural BO1 defeat to Fnatic, EG lost 0-2 to Team Spirit and were the first team to leave with their suitcases.

The ESL One Birmingham group stage was one of the worst results the members had. Immediately after being eliminated, the EG organization posted on Facebook and said: “We realized that change was necessary to regain the glory and achieve the set goals”.

Before EG gave any further updates, Misery posted on Twitter: “I got kicked from EG, I am happy and glad to be leaving. Thank you all for your support during your time with the team!” Less than an hour later, also on Twitter, Evil Geniuses confirmed his separation and who replaced him will be updated before SuperMajor. SuperMajor is the final tournament of the Dota Pro Circuit and takes place from June 2 to June 10 in Shanghai China. With Misery out, EG couldn’t get any DPC points at the Super Major regardless of their results in China. Members are forced to participate in the open qualifiers of The International 2018.

The current lineup of Evil Geniuses is as follows:

– Artour “Arteezy” Babaev
– Clinton “Fear” Loomis
– Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassa
– Andreas Franck “Cr1t-” Nielsen
