The Mafia trilogy, which was just announced last week, is now on Steam, for at least two of the three seasons. You have to wait until August to play the first part of the game. This new Mafia trilogy is remade, with a new engine, updated code and more.
If you want to experience the mafia underworld while you wait until August, Mafia 2 and Mafia 3 are already available for free for those who own the original on Steam. If you have one of the trio’s games, you’ll also get a special discount.
Mafia 2: Definitive Edition is a 4K remaster that includes all DLC, as well as clothing and vehicle packs. You’ll also be able to use Vito’s leather jacket and vehicle in other games. You can buy it in the Mafia Trilogy, or get it for free if you already have the original.
Mafia 3 came out in 2016, so the game doesn’t look much different. The Definitive Edition adds all the DLC along with Lincoln’s army shirt and vehicle from other games. If you already own the original on Steam, you’ll see the game upgraded to the Definitive Edition at no cost. Otherwise, you can buy the game individually or the whole bundle.
The new Mafia 1 is a significant upgrade. Hangar 13 recreated the city of Lost Haven from scratch with a new engine. You can see new scripts, cutscenes and promises of “extra gameplay” and modern features. The game will launch on August 28 and can be pre-ordered now. You can buy it in the Mafia Trilogy, still count as a reservation, and unlock new outfits, weapons, and vehicles.
The Mafia has a great setting and is engaging for the first few hours, but it quickly becomes a fairly ordinary open-world action game, nothing special. However, Mafia: Definitive Edition is the part that really catches the eye because the game is almost completely remade. Mafia was an open world before the genre became popular, so the game didn’t have boring things like endless collection of items, repetitive levels.
