Let’s learn the new Dust2 together

One of the most popular maps in CS:GO, has Valve edited enough?

Valve has released a new test version of Dust2. This is considered Valve’s attempt to refresh this game. But updating this Dust2 map will be much more difficult than the unplayed maps like Train

Dust2 has been a consistent map for the past 15 years, and was the most played map until it was dropped from the ‘active map pool’ this past February.

Unsurprisingly, this remake of Valve is so ‘safe’. Everything has been replaced with meticulous, higher quality blocks with the aim of bringing a new atmosphere in the game, to keep up with modern trends.

The biggest change has to be in the brightness, which has been improved in its entirety. Most of the dark areas and many of the objects that previously helped the player blend in have now been lightened: vault B is brighter thanks to an open ceiling. Bomsite A looks more open thanks to the removal of the A long door, and the removal of decorations on the wall in the catwalk area. These changes are in line with what Valve has fixed in other maps.

There are a few changes that should have been fixed a few years ago. Like widening the window from mid CT to B, and simplifying the ‘scaffolding’ near the mid CT area. The changes may seem very simple, but will help new players not get stuck or aim blocked by those spears.

What impact do these changes have?

In the coming weeks, we’ll know exactly why Valve changed. A few things to keep an eye on such as whether a vehicle in the A long area (replacing the pair in the previous version) is useful as a cover, and increasing the clearance in the area behind the vehicle in B will increase survival for CT side?

There are a few subtle subtle changes that are not noticeable, but do they have a big impact on gameplay? The first is a problem that we see a lot on other fixed maps, but didn’t catch Vavle’s attention: almost all previously flat surfaces are now a bit rough, affecting the degree of accuracy. bounce off the ground and walls of the grenades. Given the importance of smoke and flash, this will be difficult in the long run as it reduces accuracy when grenades are thrown.

Speaking of smaller changes, possibly unintentionally from Valve, Spawn’s location has been slightly changed. A reddit member showed this: CT can reach A long much faster than 2 seconds at that position, which affects the positions the CT will hold, as well as the angles the T side will see first. Again, these changes take time to get used to, and we won’t know how much of an impact they’ll actually have until everyone fully adapts to the map – which can take a while. than usual because old habits are so deeply ingrained in the blood.

But it seems that Valve has done quite a balance in this update. Valve has made a rather modest fix, but there are still interesting changes to keep players engaged. Graphically, the new Dust2 is beautiful, and it’s definitely an upgrade over the old map. T now has more detailed looking characters than the old characters. (CT has been improved before)

There are still some bugs with the terrain, allowing for unnecessary boosts, but this is nothing new as they are usually fixed very quickly. Once these issues are fixed, we will see Dust2 return to the Active Dust map pool (possibly replacing Cobblestone) and tournaments will show us what this Dust2 has to offer in the competitive scene.
