Patch 7.07 introduces a brand new stat in the game: Status Resistance (Effect Resistance). This is the stat used to reduce the length of most debuffs. This is good news for strength champions – the reduction in disable duration means they’re less likely to get burned by disable combos, making them more useful in teamfights. However, there are still some players who still do not fully understand how this system works. The article will explain in detail about Status Resistance.
First, let’s talk about how to increase Status Resistance, currently there are only three ways to get more Status Resistance:
- Hero Strength gains 0.15% Status Resistance for each point of strength acquired
- Aeon Disk’s Passive plus 25% Status Resistance
- Tiny’s Grow gives Tiny an increase in Status Resistance (20%, 30%, 40%)
Status Resistance from various sources is also exponential as Magic Resistance. Example: A tiny with 100 strength with Grow level 3 and Aeon Disk will have the following Status Resistance: 1-(1-0.15%*100)(1-40%)(1-25%)=0.6175 or 61.75% (rounded to 61.8%)
In the previous patch, Pudge was able to reach 100% Status Resistance by stacking his passive, but after 7.09, the maximum Status Resistance can only reach 99%.
After getting the formula to calculate the total Status Resistance, let’s find out the definition of Status Resistance on the Dota2 Wiki:
“Status Resistance is a hero stat that reduces the length of the debuff and reduces the value of the slow.”
The main effect of Status Resistance is to reduce the duration of debuffs like silence, stun, root, slow, sleep, disarm, hex, fear, nullify, etc. This list includes almost all debuffs in Dota2, so few players thought that Status Resistance was resistant to all debuffs. But no, Status Resistance still has a limit and many skills are not affected by it. Here are moves that are not completely affected by Status Resistance.
1. The spells continue to work if within the range of the spell
- Chronosphere, Black Hole, Song of the Siren, etc
- Auras
2. With damaging moves permission B
- Viper: Corrosive Skin, Viper Strike
- Phoenix: Fire SPIRIT, Icarus Dive
- Death Prophet: Spirit Siphon
- Arc Warden: Flux
- Jakiro: Duel Breath
- Warlock: Shadow Word
- Wraith King: Wraithfire Blast
- Underlord: Firestrom
- Venomancer: Venomous Gale, Poison Nova
- Pugna: Life Drain
- Weaver: The Swarm
- Silencer: Arcane Curse
- Batrider: Flamebreak
- Ogre Magi: Ignite
- Dazzle: Poison Touch
But you see, the vast majority of debuffs on this list are unbreakable. The reason Status Resistance can’t reduce the duration of these debuffs may be because there are too many moves in Dota2 that both deal damage for a certain amount of time and disable at the same time. If Status Resistance can reduce the duration of these debuffs, it will replace Magic Resistance, which is something IceFrog doesn’t want to happen.
Bloodseeker’s Rupture duration will be reduced by Status Resistance
3. Attack modifers deal damage over a certain duration
- Huskar: Burning Spear
- Doom: Infernal Blade (Stun duration still reduced)
- Winter Wyvern: Arctic Burn
- Orb of Venom
- Viper: Poison Attack
- Jakior: Liquid Fire
- Dragon Knight: Corrosive Breath
- Venomancer: Poison Sting
- Meepo: Geostrike
4. Debuff whose duration is determined by the person casting the move
- Razor: Static Link
- Slark: Essence Shift
The duration of Decay (Undying) and Arcane Orb (Outworld Devourer) work a little differently, as you can see in the gif below, the debuff icon disappears while the duration bar has not ended.
5. Spells have a ‘recoil’ duration at a certain time
- Disruptor: Thunder Strike
- Queen of Pain: Shadow Strike
- Enigma: Malefice
- Treant Protector: Leech Seed
- Witch Doctor: Maledict
- Invoker: Cold Snap
6. Debuffs are displayed in the status bar but are not counted as debuffs
- Tusk: Walrus Punch (While in the Air)
- Dark Willow: Cursed Crown (Delayed Time)
- Sand King: Caustic Finale (Time Delay)
- Oracle: Purifying Flames(Healing Duration)
- Ancient Apparition: Cold Feet(Delay time)
- Shadow Demon: Shadow Poison (Delay Time)
Here’s another interesting one:
When doom is not holding Aghanim’s Scepter, Doom’s ultimate duration is reduced by Status Resistance. When Doom has Aghanim’s Scepter, if using his ultimate and leaving the target (more than 900 range), the duration of the ultimate will not be reduced.
What’s even more interesting: Doom’s ultimate lasts 16 seconds, and Tiny in this gif has 75% Status Resistance, if Aghanim Doom’s ultimate is on Tiny and leaves (900+ range), Tiny will still be doomed for 16 second. But if Doom casts utimate on Tiny and leaves and then comes back after 4 seconds, Doom’s ultimate will expire immediately.
