It’s almost time to release Tell Me Why, the next adventure game from Dontnod Entertainment and Xbox Game Studios. Tell Me Why revolves around the mysterious story of twins Alyson and Tyler Ronan, they reunite for the first time 10 years after the death of their mother. Returning to their childhood home in rural southeastern Alaska, the Ronans uncover secrets about their past using their supernatural bond.

Dontnod Entertainment games have always been known for their deep, complex stories, stunning gameplay, and memorable characters. To give players a better look at the world of Tell Me Why, the developer shared a series of diaries containing some of the game’s highlights.

The first video dives into Tell Me Why’s Alaskan scene and the steps the team took to create the town of Delos Crossing. Because the area of ​​the world where the game takes place is inhabited by many indigenous communities, it was important for the team that they incorporate Alaskan Native perspectives into every development step, including including Amelia Wilson, executive director of the Huna Heritage Foundation.

This is followed by a reflection on the importance of characters like Tyler, the first transgender protagonist from a major studio and publisher, and Michael – a strange Tlingit man. It is often difficult for the mainstream media to provide meaningful depictions of indigenous and transgender people, as these voices are very rarely included in the process of creating characters to reflect them. Featured in this video are some of the many individuals who helped bring Tyler and Michael’s journey to life – including August Black, Tyler’s voice actor.

There will be multiple ways for players to shape and lead the twins, and the final video details some of them. Dontnod game director Florent Guillaume describes the “Rashomon effect” as central to the story of Alyson and Tyler; game and stage designer Charlène Bogani explains how she and her team created a specific tone around exploring the twins’ childhood home; and lead writer Morgan Lockhart on the Book of Goblins, which will provide both hints and lore for players to puzzle out.

The first chapter of Tell Me Why releases on August 27. The second chapter will be released on September 3 and the final chapter on September 10. All chapters will be available on Xbox One, Windows 10 PC and Steam. Tell Me Why will also launch on Xbox Game Pass for consoles and PC.
