Teamfight Tactics is Riot Games’ attempt to invade the Auto Chess market. Although it has many things in common with its competitors, the game still has a few different features.
If you are new to the genre and want to go through the basics in Teamfight Tactics then this article will help you.
Note that Teamfight Tactics is still in beta, which means the game will change a lot in the near future. This post will be updated as soon as possible.
Instructions for downloading and installing Teamfight Tactics
Teamfight Tactics is currently in beta, meaning only those who have access to the PBE (Public Beta Environment) server can try the game.
To enter the PBE, you need to have a League of Legends level 3 or higher account (currently only available in North American League of Legends), and there are no restrictions or bans.
You can visit LoL’s account check page to see if you can join.
If the account does not perform badly, you can create a PBE account immediately.
Once you have created your account, you need to download the PBE client to your PC or MC. The download link can be found on Riot’s support page. Scroll down a bit to “Where can I download the PBE client?” and you will find the download link.
Teamfight Tactics will be entering open beta soon, so don’t be too sad if you can’t get into the PBE!
For those who are new to the game, here is a quick guide to help you understand the game quickly. After reading, the article hopes you will understand more about the game and its mechanics.
Basic
- In a Teamfight Tactics match, you will play against seven other players. Each player will control their own “chess board” and arrange their own pieces. All battles take place on the chessboard.
- At the beginning of each match, everyone will start the same chess board, and control cute “Little Legend”. The game will have a “Carousel” or a rotating list of champions in the center of the board. Each player will choose a champion to join at the beginning of the round. To select the desired champion you simply step on it.
- Once teleported back to your board, you’ll see two “Soldiers” waiting. Drag the champion from the “waiting board” to the “chess board”. When the round starts, your champion will automatically fight. All fights in Teamfight Tactics happen automatically. The strategy lies in how you build your squad, use items, etc.
- At the beginning of each round, a random list of champions will appear that you can buy in the shop with gold. Any champion purchased will be on the waiting table at the bottom of the screen.
- Champions can then be dragged from the stand onto the board. The number of champions you can use on the board is determined by your character’s level.
- The first three rounds of each match will always be against minions. Their main purpose is to give you gold, EXP and items to start building a squad. After 3 rounds are over, you will have to face other players.
- At certain points in the game, you’ll be fighting a stronger Minion. Defeat them to get powerful items or get more gold.
- Carousel will return cyclically. It will display the list of champions as usual, but each champion will be equipped with a special item. In addition, the player’s rank on the leaderboard determines the order of selection. If you’re at the top, you’ll be the one to pick the last champion. Conversely, if you finish last, you will be selected first.
- At the end of each round, you will get EXP and gold depending on how you play. You mainly use gold to buy new champions, but it can be used to upgrade characters, increasing the number of champions you can use on the board.
- When losing a round, the player will lose health and is slowly eliminated from the game (if he runs out of health). Therefore, knowing how to choose a squad, smart arrangement as well as economic stability will increase your chances of winning.
Champion – Upgrade, Origon, class
- Champion has a passive or active move. The active move is used when the champion’s mana bar is full, and the champion gains mana when attacking the enemy.
- If buying three of the same champion, it will combine into a stronger champion of that champion. To create a 2-star piece, you will need three 1-star pieces. To create 3-star (top level) you will need three 2-star pieces.
- Each champion belongs to one Class and a Origin. If eligible, they will bring a special bonus. Take Aurelion Sol as an example. Champion is Dragon Origin (dragon) and belongs to the Sorcerer class. Place two Dragons on the board and they will be resistant to magic damage. Place three Sorcere and they will deal 35% more magic damage. There are 6 Sorcerers? Bonus will increase to 100% magic damage.
- The position of champions is also extremely important in Teamfight Tactics. Remember, each champion is suitable for a play style, so place them appropriately to maximize their potential. Place buff champions in front to take damage and attract enemy attention, while low health champions stay behind. Use ranged champions in the back to increase damage and stay safe. Try to think smart about where your champions are – who you need to protect, etc.
- Your character’s level determines how many champions you can use on the board, and you can use gold to speed this process up.
Gold – Why is it so important?
Gold is the main resource in Teamfight Tactics and can be used to do many things in the game:
- Champion – You can buy champions in the shop at the beginning of each round. The list is random, so you won’t come across the same list twice.
- Refresh Pool – If you are not satisfied with the current champion list, you can spend a little more gold to ‘refresh’ it. It’s best not to do this early in the game, to protect your precious gold.
- EXP – You can spend 4 gold at a time to increase EXP. EXP is used to level up a character. If you have plenty of gold, invest in leveling up your character, as it will give you an edge over your opponents.
There are many ways for you to earn gold. Here is a rough explanation:
- Round – you will earn gold at the end of each round.
- Interest (profit) – Depending on your total gold, you will be rewarded with a little extra at the end of each round.
- Win/lose circuit – If you win or lose continuously, you will receive an additional gold bonus
- Refund (Refund) – You can sell your champion to get your original gold back.
Item – How do in-game items work?
Items will drop from creep waves, or they will be available to champions obtained from carousel. Here’s how they work:
- Any item you own will light up in the left corner of the screen, next to the waiting table. You can drag and drop them onto champions to equip them.
- Different items have different effects. Some increase damage, while others restore mana.
- If the conditions are met, the two items can be combined into a stronger item. Move items onto a champion that already has an item equipped and the game will show what they combine to form.
- When equipping items, consider carefully how they will help that champion and their skills. Health-boosting items are suitable for buffalo champions, while DPS-boosting items are suitable for high-damage champions.
Teamfight Tactics: Tips and tricks
Even if you’ve played Teamfight Tactics for many hours, the game can still be a bit confusing. Here are a few tips to increase your chances of winning.
- Always keep an eye on your competitors – In the lower left corner of your screen, there is a box that allows you to follow each opponent’s board. Make it a habit to check what your opponents are building to plan how to deal with them.
- Flexible – It is important that you do not try to stick to an Origin or Class group. Sometimes you want to get that bonus, but ‘luck’ is not on your side and the piece you want may never appear. Always think one step ahead, and have other champions on hand in case you need to start over, but without sacrificing too much.
- Losing continuously? – Assess what your squad lacks and check the Origin and Class bonuses. Swap out some champions and replace them with other champions. If you don’t change, you will continue to lose. So know where to stop and try other strategies.
- Economic priority – Try not to use gold every round. Take advantage of Interest when accumulating a lot of gold. You will need to use them to upgrade your character in the later stages of the game as well as Refresh to optimize the squad.
- Carousel mechanism – When picking a champion from the carousel, don’t try to run through the gap in the middle. There is a high chance that your character will step on an unwanted champion. Instead, go around and time your approach precisely to pick the right one.
