A South Korean man is facing a 12-month prison sentence for creating the Overwatch hack that made him $180,000 in profits. The hack violates Korea’s game promotion law, as well as information and communication technology protection laws.

Previously, Overwatch hacking violations were suspended and severely fined in Korea, but because the amount of this violation was too large, it led to prison. This information was announced by SBS News. In addition to the prison time, this man will receive an additional two years of suspended prison.

In 2016, South Korea classified the writing and distribution of aimbot software, wall hacking and other fraudulent services as a crime. A year later fines began to be imposed: $10,000 fines and suspended sentences were given to the two violators.

Blizzard Korea last year said it would be “determined to create a fair game environment for players, and will continue to strive to ensure that environment.”
