Metro 2033 is set on Earth after a nuclear disaster.
Metro 2033 is developed by studio 4A Games and published by THQ. The game plot is based on a science fiction novel of the same name by Russian writer Dmitry Glukhovsky. It is one of the best-selling books of all time in Russia and is a blend of science fiction, action, and mysticism. All of those elements will be transferred into the game.
In the game, players will play the role of Artyom, one of thousands of citizens living in the Moscow subway system after a nuclear disaster occurred a few decades earlier. That subway system not only shelters them from the effects of explosions and radiation, but also becomes real cities. Each train station turns into a society with different conditions.
The nuclear war in 2013 pushed the world’s people underground, they had to take shelter inside the Metro system. The Earth’s surface becomes toxic, and radioactive materials block sunlight, creating nuclear winter. Plants cannot photosynthesize making the food chain unstable.
The scale of the war is unknown, but we do know that the Earth’s surface is no longer habitable. It’s an irreversible world, Metro 2033 is about accepting harsh living conditions as part of everyday life.
At the moment, Metro 2033 is being released for free on Steam. The event takes place from now until the end of March 16. Game recipients during this event can keep the game permanently in their collection.
