1. Important Requirements

To use the general messaging feature, we must update to the latest version of Instagram Direct.

In addition, the feature works in both directions, messaging Messenger on Instagram and vice versa, messaging Instagram on Messenger. However, on Instagram, it is more prominent because the Direct Message icon has been replaced by the Messenger icon.

Finally, Instagram Messenger messaging doesn’t work in group or page chats.

2. Update Instagram Direct to the latest version

To update to the latest version of Instagram Direct, follow the steps below:

Note: The steps below apply to both Instagram for Android and iOS.

Step 1: First open the Instagram application on your Android or iOS device and click on the Direct Message icon located in the top right corner as shown below:

Step 2: At this point, a window will appear on the screen with a message saying update to Messenger. Here you find and click Update (update).

Step 3: Once the process is complete, a message will appear on the screen saying that Direct Message has been updated. Click select tiếp tục (continue).

Also, if you have previously pressed the option Not now (not this time), the Instagram update process is a bit different.

All you need to do is click on your profile picture in the bottom right corner of the screen, click on the 3 dashes icon in the top right corner, select Settings (settings) =>Update Messaging (updating message) =>Update (update).

3. Instructions for messaging Messenger on Instagram

Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your iOS or Android device and tap the Messenger icon in the top right corner.

Step 2: Enter the username you want to send the message to in the box Search (search) is in the top corner.

Step 3: As you enter your username, the results will show up in different sections below. Click on any Facebook username you want to message in the section Facebook friends. In case if the username is not found, click See All (see all) to see more Facebook search results.

Step 4: A message will appear on the screen saying that you are messaging your Facebook account. Now you can send messages to your friends and relatives. The recipient on the other end also receives the same message.

Where if the other end user is not your friend on Facebook, they will be asked to “Accept” message.

Again, this works the same way if you message someone on Instagram from Facebook Messenger. Just search for the Instagram account and both of you will see the same prompts as above.
