Have you just switched from another shooter to CS:GO? Don’t like the limitation of the short mind available in the menu? This tutorial includes dozens of commands (detailed commands and examples to help you customize your crosshair. You’ll have your favorite CS:GO reticle in minutes or hours (if you’re into crosshair fiddling with crosshairs). )
First thing
-
Make sure the crosshair is set to ‘classic’ in the game settings before you use any of the commands in the “Crosshair Types” section.
-
The examples in this post will not be 100% similar to your crosshair after using them. It depends on the commands you use or don’t use
Custom Crosshair
There are many different ways to make the crosshair look simple, cool or crazy the way you want.
There are 8 sections in all in Crosshair Customization

Thickness of crosshair
Determine how thick each crosshair bar is.
-
Lowest value available: 0.5
-
Highest value available: Unknown, crosshair will be hidden from the screen if too high value is used
To change the thickness, Open console and type:
cl_crosshairthickness
Before pressing enter, press space and add the value you want to set. For example, if you wanted the crosshair to be 1.2 thick, you would type the following:
cl_crosshairthickness 1.2
Crosshair colors
The prototype color is green, which is pretty standard. However, some of you prefer a different color.
There are 3 ways to change color
-
First, type this command into the console
cl_crosshaircolor 5
Then use the following three commands to set the crosshair color exactly the way you want.
cl_crosshaircolor_b
cl_crosshaircolor_g
cl_crosshaircolor_r
The letters at the end represent the colors they change, r is red, b is blue, and g is green. To reduce a color, set the value of that color to a value like 10. For example, if I wanted to reduce the amount of Red in the crosshair to extremely low, I would type cl_crosshaircolor_r 10 into the console. If I wanted it to be a little high but not too tall, I would type cl_crosshaircolor_r 240 into the console.
2. Use the commands below to adjust to primary colors, the color of the command represents their color. After crosshair color 4 everything just reverts to light green.
3. Go to Options > Game Settings > Crosshair Color and change to the color you want. The color options you can choose from are: Green, Yellow, Blue, and Sky Blue
Crosshair Size
This command determines how long each of your crosshairs is.
cl_crosshairsize
-
Initial value: 5
-
Lowest value: 0.2
-
Highest value: Unknown, crosshair will move out of screen when value is too high
Commands example:
cl_crosshairsize 0.6
cl_crosshairsize 2
cl_crosshairsize 15
Opacity of crosshair
This command determines the opacity/clarity of the crosshair, the crosshair will be slightly blurred at first. To change, type this command into the console:
cl_crosshairalpha
Then add the value you want, and type enter.
-
Initial value: 200
-
Lowest value: 0 (transparent)
-
Highest value: 255 (no blur)
Dot in Crosshair
Pretty simple, pop it up if you want the dot in the middle of the crosshair or not, here’s the console command:
cl_crosshairdot
Leave the value 1 to turn it on, or 0 to turn it off (also the initial value)
Crosshair distance
This command will help you to set the distance between the 4 crosshair bars and the center of the screen
cl_crosshairgap
The initial value is 0. The more you increase it, the farther the crosshair will move away from the center of the screen and vice versa. You can use positive or negative values for this command.
Eg:
*To adjust the spacing of cl_crosshairstyle 1, use:
cl_fixedcrosshairgap
Border for Crosshair
At this point, you’ve probably found your crosshair, but in some places on the map, you can hardly see your crosshair.
With the command add border to crosshair, you will have a black border around the crosshair to help see everything more clearly
cl_crosshair_drawoutline
Changing the value from 0 to 1 will create a black border around the crosshair, which will improve clarity in nearly all situations, see more examples below.
Crosshair Border Thickness
So you added a command for the border of the crosshair, but you don’t like the border to be too small? Here is the command to fix it:
cl_crosshair_outlinethickness
The initial value, which is also the lowest value, is 1. You can use any value you want, except decimal values (like 1.5 , 1.6). You can also use the value 0
Eg:
Want to try out your new crosshair before playing?
Here is a good website to do this http://tools.dathost.net/. In fact, you could also use that website instead of this tutorial if you wanted to.

Question and answer section
How do I return the crosshair to the original?
Use the values at the beginning of the post or remove the commands from config/autoexec/valve.rc
Which crosshair is the best?
This depends on each person
Is there a way to change the size of the dot in the middle?
Sorry no
Is there a way to get rid of the little expansion dots for cl_crosshairstyle 2?
You can set crosshairstyle 4 to make it look like crosshairstyle 2, just without the dots. You need to change the thickness, border and size of the crosshair
