FaZe Clan, much to the surprise of many, was dropped from EPICENTER. The team that beat them is none other than Virtus.pro, the old Polish men who are storming the tournament. After the match, Nikola “NiKo” Kovač talked about the match with VP, the decision to cancel the signing and the secret to NiKo’s success.
What is your comment between your team and the organizations, about not wanting to play ESL matches from the hotel and deciding to leave the game hall while the other teams stayed?
I think all the teams wanted to leave when they had nothing to do for those 5 days, except for the signing session. Usually at other events, the team that loses the group stage goes home the day because they’ve moved so much that everyone wants to rest to focus on other matches.
The condition of the hotel rooms is not very good, the internet has problems, that’s why we and North left the place early. We’re really sorry we had to cancel the signing, but it’s true. I think [fan] won’t be upset with FaZe, try to understand us instead.
Can you say anything about the VP match? Is it because FaZe plays badly or is it because VP plays better?
VP played really well, they stepped up when needed and it was FaZe’s fault that everyone couldn’t perform as usual. So let’s praise VP, I’m glad VP won again, playing at his peak.
On the other hand, I hope that FaZe will perform better in the next tournament and prove themselves again.
What do you think about the competition in the skinny leagues? Before EPICENTER, Thorin said that this was the heaviest tournament of the year. What do you think about this?
I also agree. In other tournaments, there aren’t many top teams, and in this one, all the talented guys are present, that’s why I guess Thorin said that. It’s good to play in this tournament, especially when all the formats are best-of-3, you have no excuses.
There are many players similar to him, s1mple and coldzera. I think [tài năng] Is yours innate or due to hard work?
I think both. If you have talent, you need to know how to use it and work hard.
Who makes the decision to change blood in FaZe? The decision of the management or the players?
It’s because of the players
Before the Major, FaZe had good LAN results. But why did the team decide to change blood?
We have some internal turmoil. That’s why people decided to replace kioShiMa and allu, we didn’t have a good atmosphere at ESL One Cologne and Major. The Major was so painful, that’s when everyone started thinking about someone else. It’s a team problem, not a poor performance.
His patience in the game is phenomenal. He decided to 1-tap the opponent in the most difficult situations. Tell me about this secret, how can you be so ‘cold-blooded’? I think f0rest is a player like that, how do you stay calm in those situations?
I don’t know, I think it’s to my advantage because in a situation like that, I don’t panic, I try to play like always. Even when it was a stressful time, I kept my cool and took down the opponent, which I usually do. I like to do it, it’s my style.
So it’s like training?
Exactly.
Karrigan once said that when he joined FaZe, he noticed the differences between the players – it was an international team, obviously – and he said the Finnish players have their own style, the French have their own way of playing. Do you feel that way?
I think it’s just because they’ve played for their home team before. It’s not about the players, it’s about the teams that have their own style. That’s why it’s quite new to Karrigan. When he arrived at FaZe, karrigan needed to get used to this.
If FaZe were to clash, like Russia or France, you know what to expect?
For the French players, we know what to expect and how to play. Before Russia, it was a bit different, because Na`Vi played completely different from Team Vega, and FlipSid3 specialized in strategy. Like I said, it’s the team, not the country’s influence. Kioshima is from EnVyUs, so when Koshima joined FaZe, he tried to play the old fashioned way. Same goes for Allu.
According to the CIS community, people think that FaZe relies too much on individual performance. Some casters say that Karrigan is not a good leader. What are your thoughts?
Obviously we’re one of the best individual teams and if played right, FaZe can beat anyone, but of course that’s not always possible – not 5 at a time. Every shot is super good. It’s not true that we rely only on individual skills, FaZe has a lot of strategies that are being implemented and improved.
We built our strategy based on individual skill and good shooting, but when that didn’t happen, people had to change their tactics. That’s why they don’t always work, but we try to improve other ways of playing. We know that we can’t always shoot well on every map.
FlipSid3 Tactics’ WordlEdit said last week that individual skill doesn’t matter much, a team should need good strategy and execution. What do you think if a team has players with good individual skills and a team that relies heavily on tactics, who will win, which aspect will give them an advantage?
I think the team with individual skill will win, because they will also have their own strategy, they can play as a team. You can’t really compare these two types of teams. If you have a strong team in terms of individual skill, they still have their own cards, not running around and shooting. That is so silly.
He is the only Bosnian player the world knows about, for example someone like FalleN has gone to great lengths to create a buzz in his region. Do you have any plans for the Bosnia region?
I’m there, but I still don’t want to do anything right away because I need to focus on my future. I still haven’t reached my goals. I am still young, only 20 years old, I still have time to do for myself before serving my country.
What do you think about the CSGO scene in the Bosnia region, are there any talented players who can reach a high level?
I don’t know many players from Bosnia, I didn’t play a lot there so I can’t say much. Apparently there are a few people but I really don’t know. There is one person, huNter, he is very talented and can reach the top. He’s currently playing for Binary Dragons, they seem to be in the top 30 in the world right now.
