Twitch just signed popular streamers Ben “Dr Lupo” Lupo, Saqib “Lirik” Zahid, and Timothy “TimTheTatman” Betar to keep them from jumping to Mixer. This move comes after the streaming platform lost Ninja and Shroud to Mixer. We have a lot to talk about about each of these streaming platforms, but for streamers, almost everything has to do with how much money they get.
Before diving into this, we need to note that Ninja and Shroud’s contract with Mixer has yet to be announced. But sources close to the streaming industry say Ninja’s Mixer contract can last 3-5 years and amount to 6-8 million dollars. The money has to be worth it and the contract has to be long enough to make the switch completely worth it. A contract that is too short will not be attractive enough while too long may cause them to miss future gaming trends.
As a result, Twitch has to come up with a number that’s competitive enough with Mixer to keep the streamers exclusive to it. According to sources who correctly predicted these contracts, each signature costs “millions of dollars per year”. Exact numbers have not been released and they won’t be revealed anytime soon, but it can be guessed at roughly what Ninja and Shroud were paid to leave.
It’s also possible that this amount is less, since Twitch has more viewers, but it won’t be much less. Let’s wait and see if the terms of these contracts are revealed.
