Valve has just released a patch in the API that allows access to the data of games sold on the Steam platform. Unfortunately, Valve still wasn’t fast enough to stop Steam Spy’s Sergey Galyonkin from getting the data, enough to compile a list of the 1000 most played games on Steam.
Unlike the list of best-selling games of 2018 revealed by Steam a few days ago, Galyonkin was able to collect information about the most played games before the patch blocked access.
While this data cannot be exact, the information Galyonkin shared with Ars Technica was extracted from July 1, 2018. Since this list also does not include games without achievements, the leaderboard is also excluded. 10,000 games out of 23,000, including Dota 2.
The list of 1000 games can be found on the Ars Technica website, but here are the Top 10:

- Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
- PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
- Unturned
- Left 4 Dead 2
- PayDay 2
- Gary’s Mod
- Warframe
- Counter Strike: Source
- Paladins
