With a 3-0 win over Lazarus Esports’ American Brian “bloodyface” at BlizzCon 2019, Chinese Xiaomeng “VKLiooon” Li became the first female player to win the Hearthstone Global Champion.
VKLiooon is also the first female player to qualify for the Hearttstone Global Finals, winning the Gold Open Tianjin Master Group Season 1 Playoff, and having 10 amazing victories before reaching the finals. She was completely undefeated during the event at BlizzCon before defeating her opponent.
VKLiooon’s Deck Malygos Druid performed well against bloodyface’s Quest Shaman from the start, and her Highlander Hunter defeated her opponent’s Quest Druid in the third round to win. The win was also interesting – her use of Highlander Hunter in competition was questioned by many Western players and casters.
Although she is not famous in the West – VKLiooon is not too strange in Grandmaster – but with this championship, people will know more about her. In her post-match interview, the female player thanked her fans for their support over the past two days.
Then the female player shared her story, at a major tournament a few years ago, a male gamer said she was in the wrong line because “this place is not for you”. Finally, when asked how it feels to be the first female player to win Hearthstone’s biggest tournament: “I want to say to all the girls who dream of competing in esports, for glory, If you want to do it and believe in yourself, forget your gender and go for it.”
VKLiooon returned home with the title of world champion and a prize money of 200,000 USD.
