Hearthstone: How will the new Seasonal Rewards and Tavern Pass system work
Hearthstone Reward Track Tavern Pass - Emergenceingame

As previously announced, Blizzard is making major changes to Hearthstone’s reward system… That means the game will have a rewards tracking system that can unlock more rewards when players purchase a Tavern Pass. Perhaps due to waiting for the response of the community, Blizzard has not yet released a specific avern Pass price (including real money and in-game gold).

This update, considered the biggest change in Hearthstone since the game’s launch, will be available on November 12 and includes four key elements:

  1. Seasonal reward system that can be upgraded by purchasing a Tavern Pass
  2. New quest system including weekly rewards
  3. The achievement system (Achievement) keeps track of your in-game achievements
  4. Improved UI page (contains player stats)

The season reward system is considered a hot topic right now, but until we know the official price of the Tavern Pass, buying it is worth it or not. The hotbed of debate is what players will get for free in the new system compared to what they get with the purchase of the Tavern Pass. What the community learned from Blizzard’s stream was that the developer wanted to reward players with more gold and in-game decorations than they currently have.

Here’s how it works: Each expansion will have a new reward system that includes 50 levels to unlock. After completing 50 levels, you will be able to choose one of 10 new hero skins, and after each level you will receive 150 gold. Rewards in the journey include card packs, cards (including epic and Legendary), Tavern Tickets and gold.

Purchase of the Tavern Pass (at any point during the season) will grant the legendary golden Silas Darkmoon, along with all previous rewards up to this point in the new system. It also increases XP by up to 20% depending on your gameplay. Other rewards in the Tavern Pass include upgradeable hero skins for Warrior, Mage, and Shaman classes. They can be upgraded in three different tiers with increasing “beauty”.

In addition, each season will have different versions of The Coin for you to collect. In this expansion, it requires the player to collect 135 cards to unlock this version. To avoid infuriating players with this (since 135 cards include all of the expansion’s cards), Blizzard also introduced mini sets. Mini sets will be released after the main expansion and they also count towards the 135 cards collected. That is, you do not need to own every Legendary in the expansion to unlock The Coin.

Speaking of mini sets: No matter how great the main set was, the meta eventually faltered in the final months of the expansion. Adding a small amount of new cards will keep things fresh, but the balance issue will be quite a headache for the Blizzard community and development team.

The new quest system is also related to the reward system. Quests now reward you with XP (experience) instead of gold (gold is still a reward in the bonus system). The daily quests remain the same, but three weekly missions are added: you can re-roll one of the quests once per day.

Talk about the achievement section. It used to be something that didn’t really get much attention from Blizzard in the game. The game will have achievements for you to hunt, ranging from boring (like “owning three is Hunter in the new expansion) to more interesting (like resurrecting six minions using the new N’Zoth’ card from the Madness of Darkmoon set. Faire). Achievements apply to all Hearthstone modes. We’ll have something new in Duels and Battlegrounds modes.

Finally, the Player Profile (player information). Player Profile includes your playing stats so far, including current rank, number of wins per class, Battlegrounds and Duels ratings, etc.

In general, whether the new system is more effective in rewarding players with gold and arcane dust is still a big question mark. But this change is probably a welcome move from Blizzard since the in-game rewards have barely been adjusted over the years.

It is also possible that this update will make the community even more angry if the cost of players to catch up with the meta has to increase (due to mini sets??) or the Tavern Pass is too draining. Let’s wait and see.
