Kratos’ journey in Northern Europe will end after God of War Ragnarok.
In an interview with GameSpot, God of War series manager at Sony Santa Monica Cory Barlog revealed an extremely important piece of information about Kratos’ next journey. Accordingly, God of War Ragnarok will be the last game in the series about Norse mythology.
“I think one of the most important reasons is that the first part took five years. This second part, the development time is similar. And then you think: Well, the third story and we’re talking about a series of games that spanned almost 15 years. That’s too long“, Barlog said.
The person in charge of God of War shared that the development team really wanted to develop each relationship and story of father and son Kratos and Atreus. This would be a great topic to explore. Barlog likens the way the team is working on God of War Ragnarok to what Peter Jackson did with the Lord of the Rings trilogy. To convey the full story of JRR Tolkien, perhaps 3 movies are completely not enough. However, Peter Jackson cleverly turned it into a complete story with a tight beginning and end. According to Barlog, it is “absolute roundness”.
