Most gamers agree mod is one of the biggest attractions of PC and that’s why the platform isn’t as constrained as the Console – like turning Fallout: New Vegas into Star Wars, bringing Red Dead Redemption 2’s Armadillo town to life, or creating an AI revolution in The Witcher 3. Game consoles from Sony, Nintendo, and even Microsoft are all controlled by strict regulations, so modders can’t be as creative as they can be on PCs.
However, Steam Deck is essentially a Mobile PC so the device has full mod support. Two representatives of ValveGreg Coomer and Pierre-Loup Griffais confirm that “users can actually do everything on Steam Deck like on a regular computer … we built this device to support all of that.”
Griffais adds: “The version of Steam that runs on the device is a PC-like version tweaked with a different user interface and controls. So all the features like Steam Workshop and mod support will also be fully available.” So Steam Deck users can easily sign up and play modded games just like regular computers. For mods from ModDB or NexusMods, users just need to install the same thing as on a PC.
Additionally, Coomer and Griffais also shared that Steam Deck users can install and download games from other stores like Epic, Ubisoft Connect, GOG Galaxy or Origin.
