In the final round of the BO1 StarLadder Berlin Major, Astralis planted a bomb. And even though G2 killed all the opponents, the bomb still exploded.
G2 gave Astralis a round in Nuke. Unfortunately for G2, it was round 16 for Astralis. I have to say this round of loss was so embarrassing and everyone who watched the tournament could see this.
Astralis and G2 were quite close in the first half of the match, both at that time 1-0 in the group stage, with the Danish team temporarily leading 8-7. But then, the former world No. 1 completely overwhelmed the T side, winning 7 rounds in a row to reach map point 15-7.
In the 23rd round, Astralis quickly hit B and dropped the bomb, and only ten seconds later. An ironic situation happened.
After planting the bomb, Astralis had to defend against the retake of the French team, but failed when shox took 3 lives with awp.
With all the members of the T side dying less than 20 seconds after the bomb was placed, everyone thought this was an easy defuse phase.
Despite plenty of time, no one in G2 returned to B to defuse the bomb. Anders BLume couldn’t believe what he saw. Jason “moses” O’Toole had to hold back, while a lot of laughter echoed in the background, assuming it was from the Astralis players.
The bomb explodes, and the game is over. Astralis won and moved into group 2-0, while G2 had to go on to participate in another BO1 match against a team in group 1-1.
The CSGO community wobbled, joked, and tried to understand what had happened. Even the CEO of G2 had to utter surprise, borrowing an article from compLexity CEO Jason Lake to talk about this behavior:
