G2 Esports is considering the possibility of allowing Richard “shox” Papillon to form a new team led by Kévin “Ex6TenZ” Droolans, according to sources from Flickshot.fr.
This news is not surprising given that G2 results have not improved since the team brought shox to the bench and handed the leadership to NBK-.
With the 23-year-old playing the role of shotcall and test mixwell, G2 finished DreamHack Masters Marseille at 13-16 and 7-8 at IEM Sydney, dropping to 11th in the world rankings.
At the event in Australia, Mixwell talked about problems within the team. The Spaniard confided that “this is not a good environment for testing” and revealed a few teammates “not 100% sure what they want to do anymore.”
According to HLTV, G2 initially gave the team until the next Major, September, to prove they could grab the titles, but recent developments suggest that could change soon. shox could finally be given the chance to form the team he’s been planning for the past two months.
The 25-year-old wants to be reunited with his former teammates Ex6Tenz and SmithZz, both of whom are now free agents. The Belgian international has been without a team since February when he was released by LDLC, and SmithZz left the G2 coaching bench in March to return to the professional scene.
Kenny “kennyS” Schrub was already in the shox’s plans, reportedly backing this new lineup – only two members of the G2 team finished top eight at ELEAGUE Major Boston. This may make G2 want to keep NBK- in order to preserve the Legends title he got from the Major, but he has yet to make a decision about his future.
If G2 really follows through on shox’s project, the team’s new lineup will look like this:
Richard “shox” Papillon
Kevin “Ex6TenZ” Droolans
Edouard “SmithZz” Dubourdeaux
Kenny “kennyS” Schrub
