Yesterday, the Twitch streamer in France held an event charity largest ever – and the event received recognition from Emmanuel Macron himself. President of France already praise effort of 54 streamers at Z . event on Twitter. Their donations totaled around €3,509,197 (over £3 million).
The event begins Friday, September 20 at 6pm in Montpellier and ends at 1am on Monday. There, the team of superstar streamers gathered in a large room and simultaneously broadcast live on their channels, with the aim of calling for contributions from the community.
Every Twitch channel is free to share any content: Domingo, a streamer with 610,257 followers, has played various games like FIFA 20 and Planet Coaster. Trinity, who has 114,413 followers, has immersed herself in Tricky Towers and The Sims 4. Mizu, with 37,872 followers, has streamed Dance Dance Revolution and received song requests from viewers. Certainly the entertainment factor is indispensable in the Z event.
Under each stream screen, there is a bar to track the number of donations, with the money going directly to the world famous Pasteur Institute. The Pasteur Institute tweeted about the special fundraiser.
Some big names also participated in the Z. Ninja event, the most famous streamer in the world, contributed £23,000. In addition, Ninja’s tweets also brought more people to charity, leading to peak viewership reaching 500,000. Not to mention Ubisoft, Blizzard France and Riot Games, the “big guys” did not hesitate to raise money to support.
This isn’t the first charity stream with proud results. GuardianCon donated nearly £3 million in June, while Jingle Jam Yogscast’s annual event raised over £4 million in December 2017. Although Jingle Jam makes money from selling Humble Bundles rather than soliciting donations. Although the methods are different, the purpose of these streams is for the benefit of the community.
Z Event is the brainchild of Adrien Nougaret and Alexandre Dachary, who have been working on the idea since 2016. The first fundraiser raised around £150,000 for Save the Children. Last year that figure jumped to around £880,000 for Doctors Without Borders. But the Z event has recently reached new heights.
It was a big day for the French gaming community and even for the Pasteur Institute. Proceeds are used to research biology, microbiology, diseases and vaccines. It would be great if they could find a cure for “toxic” gamers.
