Gigantic, a free-to-play MOBA shooter that launched in mid-2017, will end its journey on July 31. Publisher Perfct World says the game has received “enthusiastic help” from “a community great community,” but ultimately, the community wasn’t big enough to keep the game going.
“Deathing Gigantic was not an easy decision. The game has a special and interesting experience, it has won many of your hearts. Unfortunately, it didn’t reach the number of players we expected,” wrote Perfect World.
“Over the past few months, the team at Motiga and Perfect World have been looking for solutions to keep Gigantic alive. However, the current state of the game limited the options for the game to continue to develop and update with more content, and with guaranteed basic features while fixing backlog problems that were more complex than anticipated. . Despite all our efforts, we couldn’t find a solution that would bring Gigantic to the big market.”
One of the reasons Perfect World found developing Gigantic so challenging could be that it decided to close its development studio, Motiga, in November 2017. Motiga CEO Chris Chung said at the time that “Gigantic” not generating enough revenue” to say why the studio couldn’t exist. Although some members were retained to support the game, that was not enough to save Gigantic.
Rubies and Hero Packs will no longer be purchasable, but all Heroes will be free until Gigantic officially shuts down, including the T-Mat character, which was just included in the January update. Any Any remaining Rubies and Crowns in the player’s account will be used to purchase items in the Gigantic Shop at a super discount, and the in-game currency will be rewarded as usual.
This announcement comes less than a week after Epic Games confirmed the closure of Paragon. Paragon faced challenges in development and had a promising future when it was launched. Really, Gigantic’s Steam player count says it all: player count has been at a low point since October 2018 and currently stands at just 167.
