Fortnite: Top 5 most controversial updates in the history of the game
Fortnite is always changing rapidly with each patch – and here are 5 of the most controversial updates in the history of the game.

Epic Games launched Fortnite Battle Royale in September 2017 and the game rose to new heights, surprising everyone.

Fortnite’s boom allowed the developer to host a $40 million tournament, the Fortnite World Cup, as well as more unprecedented in-game events like Marshmello at Pleasant Park.

Epic always wants its game to be fresh with weekly updates that constantly change the meta. However, here is a list of 5 changes that are not well received by the community.

Fortnite Season X – Update v10

- Emergenceingame
BRUTE is almost invincible

The community was excited to see Dusty Depot reappear in the Season 10 teaser clip. They were hoping other locations like Tilted Towers or Retail Row would also return.

Although Dusty is indeed back, so are the BRUTEs. Considered the most flawed item in Fortnite history, this two-man machine sits virtually undefeated with its rockets and shotguns. BRUTE has incredible movement speed and 1,000HP, which means nothing can match the power of this machine.

Fans are really disappointed with this update, and the hashtag #RemoveTheMech is trending globally. Epic Games was later forced to nerf these robots, but they are still extremely powerful, especially in the late game.

Siphon removed – Update v8

- Emergenceingame

While BRUTE is considered an item that should not be added to the game, the competition configuration called ‘siphon’ was embraced by the community in patch v7.40.

Siphon rewards players with health and materials for killing opponents, which encourages you to engage in more kills. The speed of collecting items also increases, meaning that resource farming is no longer a hard work and there are more places for you to land.

However, at the beginning of Season 8, Epic Games said they would remove the siphon in public matches due to “excessive aggression” increasing too much. Although the decision was strongly opposed on social media, the siphon was never brought back.

Airplane – Update v7

- Emergenceingame
Airplanes are always a headache when you are building a house

One thing that was added in Fortnite but not welcomed is the X4-Stormwing – or simply an airplane. After leaked information, this vehicle was officially included at the beginning of Season 7.

Its utility lies in its ability to carry four people, but the plane can also destroy structures and damage other players without posing much danger to the passengers seated. Airplanes have a big impact in competition, there are even cases where players ‘compromise’ not to attack in the air to advance together into the late game.

The Infinity Blade – Update v7.01

Earn in Fortnite Battle Royale
Only one player can possess the power of the sword

The presence of planes makes competition chaotic, but nothing compares to the sword The Infinity Blade. The sword is located at Polar Peak, and players who acquire the sword can take advantage of its immense power.

While wielding a sword, the player can quickly gather resources while moving around the map at high speed and dealing massive damage to enemies. And yet, Epic added The Infinity Blade right at the time the Winter Royale qualifiers were taking place.

Despite being heavily nerfed before being sent to the vault, this sword does occasionally return during other events.

Explosive damage through structures – Update v6.21

- Emergenceingame
There’s no place where you’re safe from explosion damage

As time went on, winning in pro competition became more and more focused on sneaking and moving to the next safe circle, while using the least amount of resources.

When the ‘turtle’ meta dominated Season 6, Epic Games added one of the silliest changes with explosive weapons. In update v6.21, they can deal damage through structures. If the RPG rocket hits your wall, the player takes 25% damage from this weapon.

The community condemned this change immediately, due to the game having too many explosive weapons. Epic quickly removed it and found other alternatives to counter the ‘turtle’ meta, such as the stink bomb.

Above are the top 5 most controversial changes of Fortnite. Although fans continue to complain about the robot, Epic Games has confirmed it will still be kept in the game to help new players. Let’s wait and see if the developer decides to change in the future.
