PlayerUnknown’s Battleground is such a successful battle royale game that within a short time of its release, it has one of the best players of all time. PUBG has surpassed the big names in the online gaming world and became the most popular game of 2017.

The phenomenon of lag in PUBG

But no matter how great a game is, it is never perfect, because there are always issues with bugs and stutters that affect performance.

And with a game as competitive as PlayerUnknown’s Battleground, having smooth, error-free gameplay is essential. So, the Kill Ping site has put together a list of fix solutions that you can use to achieve that.

Recommended configuration of PUBG

One way to avoid stutters and FPS drops is to keep your settings as low as possible. However, there is a chance that this will not solve the whole problem. The best solution is to upgrade your PC to the required system configuration level of PUBG.

  • Operating system: 64-bit Windows 10
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5-1600 / Intel Core i5-7600K
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVidia GTX 1060 6GB or better
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network connections: Broadband Internet (Broadband)
  • Capacity: 30 GB available space

If you have met the system needs but are still experiencing lag, here are the common settings that you can apply to make PUBG run smoother.

However, keep in mind that every gaming rig is set up differently, and some of the following solutions may not work for some people.

  • Fullscreen to a fullscreen window.
  • Close unused/background apps.
  • Turn off Game DVR (video receiver).
  • Repair your PC’s registry.
  • Update display and other drivers.
  • In Nvidia Control Panel (Nvidia control panel), manage 3D settings, set “Power Management Mode” to “Prefer maximum performance” (if you use Nvidia).
  • Try disabling shader cache in the Nvidia Control Panel (if you use Nvidia).
  • Set “High Priority” for the game in Task Manager.
  • Set Power Setting to “Maximum performance”.
  • Boost your PC’s performance by disabling visual effects, by opening the Control Panel and selecting “System and Security”. Then click “System” and select “Advanced system setting.” From there click on “Settings” under “Performance” and select “Adjust for best performance”. Click Apply.
  • Select “High Performance” in Power Option (If you use a Laptop).
  • Charge while playing for maximum performance (If you use a Laptop).

If the above methods still do not solve the problem, then you need the following more complex solutions:

  • Right-click This PC and click Properties.

  • Click on the “Advanced” bar and in the “Virtual memory” box, select “Change”.

  • Finally, check your hard drive. (If you have an extra SSD, make sure the Page File is only available on that SSD.) Now click on “Custom size”, and at the bottom of the window, there will be an indicator where “Recommended”. Change “Initial size” and “Maximum value” to the value of that metric.
  • Click Set then OK, and select Apply.

PUBG FPS Guide

If you have a problem of dropping FPS a lot while playing PUBG, then you can use the following way to increase the FPS to a higher one. The following way to adjust FPS can help you avoid this problem, but warn that developers do not recommend changing the .ini file

  • Go to the path “C:UsersAppDataLocalTslGameSavedConfigWindowsNoEditor”
  • Open the file “Engine.ini”
  • Paste the following code at the end and on a separate line: FrameRateCap=0
  • Save changes.

Launch Options on Steam

May not work after recent update.

Steam offers several launch options for the game that you can use to reduce lag while playing PUBG and dramatically increase your gameplay. To add them, go to Steam, right-click PlayerUnknown’s Battleground and select “Properties”. Then, click “Launch Options” and add the following command line:

“-refresh 144 -maxMem=13000 -malloc=system -force-feature-level-11-0 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -sm4”

If you want to make more changes, and explore more details using “Launch Options”, check out the following list:

  • “144” to change the maximum refresh rate of the display.
  • “13000” to change the amount of RAM you want to use for PUBG in MB. Stop using all RAM.
  • “-sm4” will change the shader from DX11 to DX10 and will remove some game distractions.
  • “-mallow=system” will force Windows to handle the memory allocation.
  • “-USEALLAVAILABLECORES” will make PUBG use all CPU cores, but this may not work because nowadays the game can do this on its own.

Lag caused by Server

If, after applying the above methods, you still have lag, then the error may lie in the server. Although we can’t do much to fix it in this case because the server is managed by the developers, we can still change a few things to reduce ping and eliminate server lag, including including increasing bandwidth, limiting internet access and using wired networks.

This is the best configuration setting for PUBG – Optimal and effective

Conclusion

There are many methods to overcome lag in PUBG. However, you should be aware that some solutions require you to change some of the presets of your PC as well as the game.
