Famous YouTuber sued by Epic Games for selling Fortnite hacks

Epic Games, the company that develops Fortnite, is very tough on hacking. The company not only banned thousands of people from using hacking software, but they also took the hackers to court. And most recently, two popular YouTubers with 1.7 million followers have been sued.

In the lawsuit, Brandon Lucas (Golden Modz) and Colton Conter (Exentric) are accused of violating intellectual property rights, breach of contract, and engaging in unfair trade. The company added that the duo “created software that is not allowed by Fortnite by modifying the game’s code.”

The pair use hacks in Fortnite, but the main issue Epic Games wants to make is that they’re used to drive revenue from selling cheat tools like the aimbot, many of which cost over $200.

Lucas said Epic Games had asked YouTube to take down many of the videos over allegations of copyright infringement on YouTube. He said the company is discriminating against him, because “about a thousand” other YouTubers are doing the same thing but are not being sued.

In a statement to the BBC, Epic Games said: “When hackers use aimbots or other cheating technologies to gain an unfair advantage, they undermine fair players. We take anti-hacking very seriously, and will take every measure to ensure our games are fair, entertaining, and competitive for our players.”

Last year, Epic sued two hackers for copyright infringement, one of whom was only 14 years old.
