Fallout 76, which was just announced yesterday, remains a big mystery. In addition to the short trailer, Bethesda has decided to keep all gameplay information private for later. Until then, fans are spreading rumors about this game. If the leaked source is correct, this is probably an online multiplayer version of the game “Rust”.
When they learned that the game was Fallout 76, the Internet community searched the internet to understand the origins of Vault 76. They were looking for leaked information. Quite a few results were immediately discovered, mostly coming from both 4chen and Reddit. In particular, at 4chan said that this game has appeared since December 2017.
Here are three different articles posted on 4chan by anonymous users, gathered by Twitter user Nibel, about Fallout 76:
- “fallout 76, a fallout themed Rust clone coming soon”
- “**** if I know if it’s going to be at E3. It’s called Fallout 76I heard about it over the holidays so it might’ve been canned.”
- “it’s called Fallout 76 and the map is set alongside an interstate highway”
“fallout 76 is a Rust themed fallout, coming soon”
“**** if it shows up at E3. It’s going to be called Fallout 76, I heard about it on vacation so it’s probably already packed.”
“it’s called Fallout 76 and the game map will take place on the interstate highway”
Note that all of these leaks could be “dog yawns on flies”. The people who posted it probably put the big numbers up and got lucky, or they might know a little, the rest is homemade. Either way, they guessed the name of the official Fallout 76 title.
The Reddit leak is a bit different from the anonymous source above. SoMeh user said Bethesda will announce “Fallout: Vault 76” just hours before the official news is out. They describe the game as “a game revolving around building elements.” Coincidentally, SoMeh also talked about leaked Nintendo E3 information that many believe to be fake.
Many other reliable sources also started to join. Kotaku’s Jason Schreier says he’s heard (unofficially) that Fallout 76 is an online game co-developed by Bethesda Studio and Battlecry Studios. Battlecry is famous for its online group shooting game called Battlecry, but the project was canceled. Schreier said anyone hoping for this to be a single-player RPG will be “disappointed”.
What game Fallout 76 really is, we’ll have to wait until June 10 at Bethesda E3 2018. Is it a “Rust clone”, taking place in Vault 76 along the interstate highway, and based on Fallout 4’s building features? Time will tell us.
