Before Fallout 76 was released, Bethesda was very confident about her project, but that optimism could not be realized. Fallout 76 soon became a disaster, the game constantly encountered technical errors and was criticized by critics for many things. Now, nearly five months later, Fallout 76 seems to know how to piss fans off.
According to the latest announcement from Bethesda, Fallout 76 will add more than decorative microtransactions to the game, in the form of Basic Repair Kits. Basic Repair Kits will be sold in Fallout 76’s Atomic Shop and can be used to repair damaged items. Previously, Bethesda insisted she wouldn’t add anything to the microtransaction other than decorations to Fallout 76.
Bethesda’s Pete Hines had this to say about the microtransaction ahead of Fallout 76’s release:
“All the content we’ll be adding to Fallout 76 — all the DLC, everything that comes out after — will be free. This is important. And again, Atomic Shop is just a decoration. Just to make sure everyone understands – Fallout 76 has a clear line… we’re not pushing the boundaries of what you can spend money on in the game and what you get for your $60. Just so you know, every time Bethesda comes out with new content or features or whatever, you get them for free.”
Understandably, Fallout 76 players resent Bethesda going against its promise, especially when they added more than just decorative microtransactions to the game.
This decision was probably Bethesda’s mistake. With the Wild Applachia expansion, though, it’s hard to see how the studio recovers Fallout 76.
