Epic Store may monopolize many games of publisher Metro Exodus

In a recent interview with GamesIndustry, Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Deep Silver admitted that the Metro Exodus monopoly on the Epic Games Store “creates some conflict” but that Koch is “very pleased with the commercial results”, and will probably do. that goes on – with one small change.

“Overall, my opinion remains the same, as a publisher and industry insider, we applaud Epic and their business model.” Kundratitz continued. “We have a close relationship with Epic and we will continue to have a close relationship with Steam. It’s a pity we couldn’t announce this partnership sooner. That’s not perfect.”

Kundratitz’s quote mirrors what Epic said back in March, when they realized some fans weren’t happy, but Metro Exodus sales were 2.5x better on the Epic Games Store than Metro: Last Light on Steam. This isn’t a perfect comparison – since the Metro series and PC game market is so much bigger than it was in 2013, when Last Light was released.

Kundratitz also echoed the comments made by Paradox Interactive president Frederik Wester. He said in July that Valve’s 70/30 revenue split was “too much to bear.”

“We need to appreciate the digital partner that can offer a more compelling profit sharing model, and I think they are a model for us and other digital partners – 70/30 split is really old fashioned. ”, he said.

“We have many games on Steam, including new releases like Iron Harvest. “But I don’t rule out the possibility of going exclusively with Epic again.”

Perhaps the next Metro game – currently in development – will be an Epic Games exclusive. Metro Exodus’ DLC, The Two Colonels, hit the Epic Games Store (and Steam) earlier this month.
