Epic is about to release a free version of Assassin’s Creed

Upcoming free games usually appear a week in advance on the Free Games page of Epic Games Store . That way, gamers get this week’s free games and they’ll get a glimpse of what’s to come and will definitely return to the store in the future. A few days earlier, the Free Games site listed the strategy card game Faeria as the only free product for the next week, but Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Ubisoft’s was suddenly added to the lineup. Both games will be available for free on the Epic Games Store from February 20 to February 27.

Historically, the free games offered by the Epic Games Store have been the standard edition while the premium or full version has been reserved for paying customers. That is likely to be the case with next week’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, although the gold version of the game will also be available on the same day.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate was officially released in 2015 and this is the 9th game in the main series. The story takes place in Victorian London in 1868, during the decline of the Industrial Revolution. Twin brothers Jacob and Evie Frye arrive in London to find that it is being ravaged by the Templars. As members of Assassin’s Creed, they were responsible for taking the city from the Templars’ control. Just like other games like Assassin’s Creed 4 , many historical figures appear throughout the game, including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Charles Dickens, and Charles Darwin.

The game received generally positive reviews from critics for the PS4 and Xbox One versions, with praise mainly for the new battle system, unique missions, and impressive cast of characters. On the other hand, the PC version did not succeed in garnering good reviews from gamers and critics alike. The main complaint is that this is a remake, taking a bit of everything from the Assassin’s Creed titles, and not a separate PC version.

While Epic originally planned to end its weekly giveaway event in 2019, in January 2020, the company announced it would be extending its free-to-play game program through 2020.
