E3 2019 might not be as epic as this year?

Sony Interactive Entertainment makes a surprise announcement at the Entertainment Software Association saying it will not be attending E3 2019. Also, there is no intention of planning a separate event nearby, the same way that EA or Devolver did. PlayStation’s vice president of community, Jennifer Clark, told Game Informer that Sony “will not be operating or holding a press conference on E3.”

“As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to find new opportunities to engage with the community,” the company said. “PlayStation fans are everything to us, and we’ve always wanted to create, think differently, and experience in new ways to delight our players. Therefore, we decided not to attend E3 in 2019. We are exploring new yet familiar ways to engage with our community in 2019 and will share our plans with you.”

Sony’s withdrawal from E3 How will the impact be?

With the mass Internet and streaming platforms like Twitch, publishers no longer have to rely on annual events like E3 again. And if Sony wonders why they have to invest and put in so much effort when they can live stream right in the office, like Nintendo Direct, others will soon be asking themselves the same question – and draw the conclusion that “I don’t need to participate anymore”.

At least for now, the other big faces still appear. Entertainment Software Association held a press conference to congratulate the success of E3 this year and promises to hit “new heights” in 2019. Coincidence or not, E3 also received support from Microsoft and Nintendo for the event.

E3 It’s a great place to showcase the vibrancy and creativity of the video game industry,” said Xbox boss Phil Spencer. “ESA continues to expand the event to fans and the industry, both in person and online, and we are looking forward to what happens next. E3 2019.”

The ESA said Microsoft, Nintendo of America, Activision, Bethesda Softworks, Capcom, Epic Games, Konami, Square Enix, Take-Two, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will all be in attendance E3 2019. The event takes place from June 11-13 in Los Angeles. But like previous years, before that, there will be press conferences from major publishers, making the event last for nearly a week.
