Dota Summit is the traditional Dota tournament with only a few weeks before each International.
While the DPC season will end at the Super Major in early June, Beyond the Summit continues their tradition and hosts Dota Summit 9 at their home in Los Angeles. With The International 8 taking place at the end of August, from 20 to 25, and the final event of Dota Pro Ciruit taking place from 2 to 10 June, pro players will have 2 dismal months of doing nothing.
Perhaps TI8’s regional qualifiers will take place somewhere in June, but with eight teams already earning their spot at the biggest event of the year through DPC points, a two-month break isn’t going well. Dota Summit 9 will give the participating teams a final tactical test before heading to Rogers Arena in Vancouver in Canada.
Dota Summit 9 was announced in a small video of Smash Summit 6 over the weekend. The clip does not reveal any information about the participating teams and its schedule.
The previous three seasons of Dota Summit (6,7 and 8) were all won by Virtus.pro, also the first team to qualify for TI8 after winning three Majors: ESL One Hamburg, ESL One Katowice, and Bucharest Major. The DPC schedule, with events taking place around the world on an almost weekly basis, had a negative impact on some teams, whose members were already feeling tired. At the two latest performances of VP at DAC and EPICENTER proved that. Let’s see if the Dota Summit champion decides to defend his title. VP declined to attend the MDL Changsha Major, but they will attend the ESL One Birmingham Major and the Chinese Super Major.
