The Fall Season Update in Dota 2 is not simply a new ranked season. This update also changes Dota Plus and Guild, and details Valve’s plans from now to 2020 and beyond.
The new ranked season will run from today until December. Dozens of new content will be added for users who have paid for Dota Plus.

Plus members can use the shard to purchase new treasures, including 12 community-created item sets: Nyx Assassin, Leshrac, Medusa, Vengeful Spirit, Weaver, Clockwerk, Faceless Void, Doom, Sven, Ax, Crystal Maiden, and Tusk. The Ethereal and Prismatic gems are also returning with the Blazing Hatchling courier randomly equipped with one of those gems.
Valve plans to add treasures to Plus during the season every three months. Items that can be purchased by share will be released on December 1st. Seasonal terrains and quests follow the same trend.
Speaking of missions, this season’s seasonal missions will give players up to 57,850 shares to use for Seasonal Treasure. Everyone can earn Shards, but Plus members will easily earn more.
- All players can now max out Hero Level Five without Plus. Only Plus members can achieve Silver tier or higher.
- All players can tip the shard.
- All players can get weekly shard rewards for winning three matches. Regular players get 500 shards per week, while Plus members get 1,000.
- Store Plus rewards changed its name to “Shard Shop”. Premium hero sets, old hero sets and tools can be bought by everyone
- Seasonal treasure, Chat Wheel sound and Hero Relic are still exclusive to Plus.
Plus members can use the new Role Assistant hero sorting system. It will automatically record every hero picked in the Ranked Role matchmaking and display the most picked heroes according to that role. This information will always be updated data and can be filtered by MMR rank so you can see the pick rate at your rank.
Here are a few other features that have made their way to Plus.
- Chat Wheel sound effects (like Moo, Orcherstra Hit) can now be unlocked with shards.
- The creep creep time shown while holding ALT is exclusive to Dota Plus members only.
- Gold analysis and healing after the game are now combined with the damage tab on the Dota Plus side
- The Battle Pass MVP feature is now open to everyone, but Dota Plus members can take on the shard with the new seasonal quest.
In addition, the number of people allowed to be included in the Avoid Players list has been increased from 16 to 25.
Guild is now reworked to integrate with Dota and Dota Plus replacing the ended Battle Pass.
Guild levels have been replaced with weekly guild points rankings by region. These rankings will be updated at the same time every week and players can receive shard rewards according to their Guild rank.
Plus members get double Shards and weekly Guild rankings that can determine the ability to use special features. Valve has listed the rankings and rewards as follows:
- Tier Platinum (The highest group, 75% more than the rest, or the top 25%)
- 750 Shards per week (1,500 for Dota Plus)
- 3 Caster Chat Wheels
- Includes Silver Tier Emoticons and Gold Tier Sprays
- Tier Gold (The second highest group, in the top 50-74%)
- 500 Shards per week (1,000 for Dota Plus)
- 3 Guild Sprays
- Includes Silver Tier Emoticons
- Silver Tier (The third highest group, in the top 25-49%)
- 250 Shards per week (500 for Dota Plus)
- 3 Guild Emoticons
- Tier Bronze (Remaining)
- No reward
This ranking and reward system is for active guilds, so the weekly rank of the Guild depends on their performance.
Guild contract now rewards both guild and shard points. All players can access one contract slot per day, but Dota Plus members have two. Certain guild challenges can still be completed in parties of at least three members. As usual, anyone can join a Guild, but only Plus members can create a Guild.
Finally, the seasonal rank has been slightly adjusted. Valve will use a different method than resetting the MMR.
“In the past, we saw many negative aspects when forcing everyone to rset MMR at the same time. That makes us not want to reset every 6 months. However, after talking about this hesitation, the team received a lot of feedback about the value of this feature to players, and a lot of advice.”
Reset MMR this fall will be decided by the players themselves. Anyone who resets the MMR will see how it adjusts differently from the old system. If you log in and go to Settings, there will be a new MMR Recalibration setting in the Account tab so players can trigger the reset.
Recalibration is widely distributed between October 22 and November 22. It can be activated at any point during this ranked season.
