OG are ready for the full lineup for the first time since February 2020. They will be taking part in the ESL One Birmingham 2020 Online tournament starting August 25, 2020.
OG’s new lineup after TI9 brings high expectations from Dota 2 fans, especially to those who have followed OG in recent years. However, mid player Topson was unable to play with the OG squad due to the Corona epidemic while he was in another part of the world.
The only time fans saw this roster compete was during the ESL One Los Angeles Major regional qualifiers, which took place in mid-February. At that time, OG made a breakthrough in Europe by winning one of three tickets. attended the Major with Secret and Peter “ppd” Dager’s old NiP roster. However, the Major was canceled and Topias Miikka “Topson” Taavitsainen, Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng and Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan were stranded in Southeast Asia and North America. When tournament organizers switched to online, OG tried stand-ins for MidOne and Topson, while forcing SumaiL to play at around 100 ping. That didn’t turn out to be perfect, and MidOne started joining the team in Malaysia, despite the high ping.
In a recent interview with RedBull, OG captain Johan “N0tail” Sundstein said the following:
“As countries began to close their borders and online tournaments began to emerge, we realized that sooner or later we had to play without a full squad and suffer. We tried to play with Neta ’33’ to success, but the team had to change the gameplay a lot to fit the new lineup. We tried out a few games with Irakli ‘W1sh-‘ Peranidze, but personally feel like this big change won’t be good for the roster in the long run. Because we spent a lot of time analyzing the game for the members and the team didn’t have enough time to explain our vision for the game, due to the online matches that continued.”
Recently, OG finished 3rd in OGA Dota PIT Online using MidOne in the mid and Sébastien “Ceb” Debs in the offlane. Just a day before the ESL One Birmingham group stage match, the team announced Topson’s return to Europe.
