Analyzing Aganim’s Scepter for position 5 supports is very difficult: it is rare for this position to have enough money to build such expensive items. But for the sake of this Aghanim’s Scepter series, we’re going to ignore the economics and focus on the real power that’s worth upgrading to the green stick.
DISRUPTOR
This can be considered as the strongest Aghanim’s upgrade among supports and one of the strongest green sticks in the game. Preventing opponents from using BKB, which is especially effective against heroes with a status resistance line, is one of the reasons why this green stick is preferred by pro teams and high ranked pub gamers.
If the game doesn’t go well, don’t be afraid to ask for priority farming, especially when the team relies on magic damage and lockdown.
WITCH DOCTOR
- Death Ward’s attack has True Strike and bounces through nearby enemies
Aghanim’s scepter isn’t exactly what the Witch Doctor needs, but it would be great to have it in the late game. Death Ward’s damage output is massive and with the recent change, it’s a great tool against shadow heroes.
Don’t skip the defensive and auxiliary items to go straight to Aghanim’s, but consider it later in the game or ask for the green stick if the team kills Roshan. This is probably the only Aghanim’s Scepter of a support hero that can win teamfight on his own.
GRIMTROKE
- Added a new move, Dark Portrait. Create a shadow from an opposing hero.
It’s hard to understand why Dark Portrait’s shadow deals bonus damage, but in certain games this green stick can change the game. It’s best against heroes like Luna and Medusa, with its ability to shoot multiple opponents, but it can also be beneficial against carries that rely heavily on stats.
Dark Portrait is also very useful to steal some aura and balance in teamfights. Things like Radiance, Assault Cuirass or hero auras like Shadow Fiend can completely turn the tide of battle.
OMNIKNIGHT
- Increases duration, heals, applies to the entire map and affects turrets.
Omniknight position 5 is rare right now, but the hero is still useful in certain situations. Omniknight’s Aghanim’s also comes in handy in every game: its protection is undeniable and in some cases it’s also used as a glyph replacement.
However, note in matches against Oracle or Shadow Demon as well as games with cores on Nullifier.
ABADDON
- Increase the duration
- While Borrowed Time is active, any ally that takes more than 525 damage within 1600 range around Abaddon, a Mist Coil will automatically shoot towards that ally.
Again, Abaddon isn’t the best position 5 hero in the patch right now, but his green stick is still very strong. Mist Coil may not be the strongest standalone heal, but when Utilmate is activated in a team fight, it becomes extremely effective.
It is strongest when encountering heroes with many low cooldowns, decent nuke damage, such as Queen of Pain and Void Spirit.
TREAT PROTECTOR
- Added new move: Eye in the Forest.
- When Overgrowth is cast, it also casts around the Eye of the Forest.
Vision is always beneficial. Aerial vision is even more beneficial and that’s why Beastmaster is so popular right now, when Night Stalter and Keeper of the Light’s green staff are nerfed.
However, Trean Protector should not rush this item, but can be considered for late game to add visibility and map control potential. Don’t ward off afk farm, it’s not worth the trade-off.
SHADOW DEMON
- Causes Serpent Wards to split shot, attacking two pieces at once for full damage
- Increase the attack range of the Serpent Wards
This is the most underrated green in pro and high-rank pubs, but it’s very, very good in mid-rank games. The reason is quite simple: pub gamers don’t know how to end the game and often draft weak squads that don’t have the ability to push.
Shadow Shaman solves this problem, while it offers a good teamfight solution beyond the moves this hero offers. This is definitely not a Shadow Shaman item that should be rushed, but a very good choice for the late game in certain drafts.
WARLOCK
- Summon 2 golems with less stats and bounty gold
Similar to the reasons discussed above. This is an option to increase teamfight with potential to push lane.
It’s better than many people think in terms of damage dealt. Because of the full aura Permanent immolation stack, that means Warlock can deal more than 140 damage per second to opponents within a small AoE range.
UNDYING
- Increase the amount of strength gained
This Aghanim’s Scepter is much stronger, as Undying’s ultimate now scales with Strength. While in Flesh Golem form, Undying gains +16 Strength from each decay!
If the game is in the late game and you already have Aghanim’s Scepter, consider choosing a -2 second Decay cooldown at level 25. Reincarnation is powerful though and allows Undying to use three times, sometimes four. Tomb, but at this point in the game, its effectiveness can be very limited.
