Day two of the EPICENTER playoffs kicked off with a drawdown between Forward Gaming and PSG.LGD. The outcome of this match not only determines Forward Gaming’s journey to TI9, but also affects OG and Keen Gaming’s participation in the most prestigious Dota tournament on the planet.
In the end, Forward Gaming could not overcome the Chinese giants, and will have to return home to prepare for the TI9 regional qualifiers. As the last Major of the 2018-2019 DPC, the EPICENTER Major only brought FWD 150 points (9-12th), pushing them outside the top 12 on the leaderboard.
Forward had an unbelievable journey the day before when he beat Fnatic to keep TI9 hopes alive. However, PSG.LGD, as the champion of EPICENTER XL 2018, wants to defend its title.
FWD’s defeat means OG has won tickets to TI9. This is really good news for TI8 champions as their captain n0tail is sick and unable to join the team. OG is currently playing with coach Titouan “Sockshka” Merloz in the squad and is at the bottom of the table. However, in the losing bracket yesterday, against Evil Geniuses, OG defeated the North American giant and recently continued to defeat the leader in DPC scores, Team Secret.
Keen Gaming also won a ticket to TI9 directly thanks to the defeat of Forward Gaming. The Chinese team didn’t qualify for the last Major, but they accumulated 1,140 DPC points, enough to qualify for TI9. Currently, only Alliance and Gambit have to determine who wins this final ticket, the results will be available on June 28.
