Since the founding of the Dota 2 team, Ninjas in Pajamas has always competed in the European region. Back in 2015, when they used an all-Swedish roster, and then changed it a few times over the years, but NiP never considered changing the region.
NiP’s last DPC season wasn’t too bad as they earned the right to TI9 thanks to enough DPC points. However, except for the first Major when NiP made it to the top 4, the team only won the right to the Major from the Minor. Europe was the most competitive region of the year, and qualifying to the Major was really challenging for the top teams. However, some big names in Europe still decided to skip the first Major of this season. NiP started with a new roster with captain Peter “ppd” Dager, but they lost in the first round of the qualifiers and will now attend Dota Summit Season 11 – the first Minor of the 2019-2020 DPC.
Ninjas in Pajamas joined the TI10 journey from the very beginning. Last week, the team had a presence in Rotterdam, DreamLeague Season 12, a non-DPC event, and made it to the top 3. From there, NiP flew to ESL One Hamburg, and made it through to the group stage, but were then eliminated in the losing bracket of the group. Major Events.
When they arrived in Hamburg, two of NiP’s support members, ppd and Biver, sat down with Jake “SirActionSlacks” Kanner to talk about their plans to change regions.
“I don’t want to say which region I belong to. I feel this has been the case in recent years with most of the North American-European teams,” ppd said of the squad that currently has three North American and two European members. “We’re planning to play in the NA qualifiers for the rest of the season, so we’re NA team now, but still have a bit of an EU core,” he added.
After this ESL Hamburg, NiP will fly to Los Angeles for the Dota Summit Minor. If all goes to plan, NiP will be in North America from the second Major qualifiers – the second Major will take place from December 1 to 6.
