Here’s a tutorial by xuisoko on Reddit:
I’ve noticed that a lot of supports, especially at Divine and Immortal ranks and below, have a hard time finding the right position when pushing turrets.

When you’re losing gold and XP, one of the ways your opponent can stay tier 2 is to hook your team’s tires and attack from behind.
This can happen if the opponent gains a high ground advantage near the turret and fights with a much more advantageous vision. Usually weaker teams shouldn’t be allowed to do that and it’s the support’s job to prevent that from happening:
1. If you play with Dire
Push T2 safelane turret towards Radiant
You absolutely must limit the opponent’s access to this area:
To do so, you must first:
- Have a view of the area
- Make sure the opponent has no vision
- HIDE IN A NEARLY BRUSH, your location is both 1 blink away from your target and 1 blink away from your ally.
This is the best active position for you to hide in the T2 safelane turret area on the Radiant side:
But before hiding there, you must 100% deward the hill and this area:
If you don’t, the enemy will have vision of you hiding in the tree and you will feed the enemy, then help them hook the team, as well as successfully defend.
Push T2 turret offlane on Radiant
Make sure the enemy has no vision in this hill area:
The reason is that wards have good visibility in these bushes:
You want to hide in these trees to protect the rear. When you do, make sure you have visibility into the adjacent highground area. This is a must-have requirement for support against tire hooking. Finally, make sure you have visibility in the area.
2. If you play with Radiant
Push the T2 bot tower on Dire .’s side
The reason for choosing this position is simple:
- No ward highground can see you
- If you place the ward correctly outside, near the bounty rune, you will have vision of the enemy but they will not see you.
- You can blink to that location
- Close enough to blink towards enemy T2 turrets while allies are pushing, as well as protect from tire hooks (picture below)
Even without the blink, you can still avoid being hit here, but make sure the team has to defeat the hill first because it can see the first 4 trees if there is an observer ward on the hill.
Push the top T2 tower towards Dire
If you don’t deward this place, don’t go anywhere near the highground. If you can’t safely deward, don’t do it. Place the ward on the edge near the T2 turret.
The area as shown below is the best place to support standing and fighting tire hooks when Radiant pushes the T2 top turret. Hide in a tree and make sure you have visibility from both sides. Can be obtained by warding the highground on the hill.
Sure the ward on the hill will be destroyed, but still plugged as shown below:
This ward on the hill makes sure you don’t get hit when pushing T2 turret, because the team can see the directions the enemy can appear. If you stand in the position as shown in the picture, you can counter the opponent’s movement.
Aim to do?
Choosing a standing position as instructed above, with a view of the directions where the opponent might appear (by effectively planting the Observer ward), while you hide in the nearby bushes will bring benefits such as:
- You are 1 blink away to save an ally
- You are within range of casting spells on enemies, if they hook up
- You are 1 blink away from enemies if they don’t hook up (and defend next to turrets)
- If the enemy hooks the tire and jumps behind, you will stand behind them and be able to take down the opponent’s rear formation.
Basically, as long as you:
- Make sure the enemy has no line of sight in the area
- Make sure you have visibility into potential hitches
- And lurking in that range,
Then you will make the opponent have no way to successfully defend. Check out xuisoko’s video tutorial for better understanding.
