Last year, when Dota 2 Summit 9 ended at the end of July 2018, patch 7.19 was released for TI8. The Summit 10 also just ended and Valve quickly released 7.22f, which is likely to be the patch that the players will compete in at TI9. The update brings a small change to the item along with a lot of adjustments to the heroes.
Let’s analyze who are the beneficiaries in this patch. Update 7.22f details can be read here.
AGHANIM’S SCEPTER
- Recipe price changed to buff reduced from 2000 to 1800 gold
This very small change only affects the late game. No hero wants to use Aghanim’s Scepter before they have 6 slots, and 200 gold at 50 minutes shouldn’t really matter.
Most of the tweaks in patch 7.22f are minor. But with Dota 2, a small change can make a big difference. Let’s see which heroes they affect
Heroes benefit from patch 7.22f
- Chaos Knight
- Clockwerk
- Dragon Knight
- Drow Ranger
- Invoker
- Keeper of the Light
- Lycan
- Tinker
- Underlord
The most favored hero in this patch is Tinker. Increases the Amplify Spell Damage talent at level 10 and the new talent at level 15 makes this hero stronger. +11% Manacost/Manaloss reduction is very beneficial for Tinker, especially when Tinker has to constantly cast spells.
TINKER
TALENTS
- Level 10 Talent increased from +100 Cast Range to +125
- Level 10 Talent increased from +8% Amplify Spell Damage to +10%
- Level 15 Talent changed from +15% Spell Lifesteal to +11% Manacost/Manaloss reduction
Another hero that also benefits is Invoker, although not favored, but the hero’s Quas-Wex has been buffed.
Heroes lost in patch 7.22f
- Ancient Apparition
- Centaur Warrunner
- Chen
- Dark Willow
- Grimstroke
- Outworld Devourer
- Spiritbreaker
- Wraith King
Wraith King probably suffered the most, with Wraithfire Blast getting a pretty strong nerf in the laning phase. In addition, Wraith King no longer prioritizes Mortal Strike over Wraithfire Blast, which means the damage reduction won’t go away until the hero reaches level 7.
WRAITH KING
MORTAL STRIKE
- Mortal Strike manacost increased from 30/45/60/75 to 50/60/70/80
WRAITHFIRE BLAST
- Wraithfire Blast base damage reduced from 100 to 70/80/90/100
The changes in patch 7.22f didn’t change the meta in general, as this update wasn’t used to create big surprises at Dota 2’s most prestigious tournament. Before TI8, Wraith King and Vengeful Spirit were rarely seen. used but surprisingly they were used the most in the tournament.
At this point, teams will practice and experiment a lot to find out which heroes fit their playstyle. Therefore, although patch 7.22f generally does not bring many changes, its real impact will appear on this August 15, when The International 2019 officially begins.
