Nicolai “device” Reedtz, key to Astralis’ success in 2017, will be absent from CS:GO for the rest of the year.
Dev1ce confirmed this on Twitter early this morning. He said he will have to take a sick leave for the rest of 2017. The world’s top AWPer player will miss the upcoming ESL Pro League Season 6 Finals as well as the upcoming ECS Season 4 Finals. The Boston Major in January 2018 will mark his return, as long as dev1ce’s health improves.
Bummed about how this year ended for me. Feeling better&will explain my condition later. I hope that the team can play with @denniscsgod and do well for the rest of the year. See you in Atlanta, with me being stronger than ever, I promise.
Thanks for all the support this year❤— Nicolai Reedtz (@dev1ce) 27 November 2017
Most likely, the extra rest is due to his stomach problem, which was diagnosed in March earlier this year.
“The disease recurred, so the device had to go to the hospital to be checked” the organization said on Twitter after the last IEM Oakland tournament. “We have decided to bring him home for further check-ups and rest.”
At IEM Oakland, the team agreed to fly back to Denmark to ensure the health of Device and Peter “dupreeh” Rothmann. The remaining 3 Astralis players after that fined by ESL for not fulfilling its media and fan obligations.
Since device retirement, Astralis has been using GODSENT’s Dennis Edman and AWPer Jacob “Pimp” Winneche temporarily. Dennis recently helped Astralis take second place at the BLAST Pro Series, while Pimp helped them qualify for the ECS Season 4 Finals in Cancun, Mexico. Pimp will most likely participate in this $750,000 tournament with Astralis as he is the one who helped them reach 4th place in Europe.
