After being accused, shAy spoke up to defend herself, saying that her ex-partner was responsible for all of the above crimes, she was not anything illegal and completely innocent. In a statement, shAy’s attorney stated:

Sentenced to 116 years, but under Brazilian law, a criminal can only be jailed for up to 30 years for a single crime, even if the court considers that person’s crime worthy of a sentence higher penalty. Therefore, if the case cannot be successfully appealed, shAy will only be imprisoned for 30 years and will be released in 2050.
