The name “Night City” itself has many stories behind it. For the most part, it was simply inspired by the works of William Gibson, the father of sci-fi and cyberpunk novels like Burning Chrome (1982) or Neuromancer (1984). “Night City” is the name that appears in many of his novels and obviously, this is also a reason for CD Projekt Red to choose it to name his city.

Also, Night City also happens to be the name of a Computer BBS (Boardboard System) that operated in Queensland, Australia from the late 80’s to the early 90’s before the Internet developed and it became obsolete.
