- Polystrike, the CSGO mod in Dota 2, has teamed up with Garry’s Mod and Rust developers Facepunch Studios to bring their version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to Source 2.
Dota 2 has been using the Source 2 engine since Dota 2 Reborn and now Polystrike will bring Source 2 to CSGO in its own special way. The mod team announced on Twitter that Polystrike, a CSGO top-down MOBA-based Dota mod, will be joining Facepunch’s upcoming sandbox as an official mod.
At the end of October, Facepunch announced it had completed negotiations with Valve to use the Source 2 engine in the next version of Garry’s Mod. It’s called s&box, and if it’s been as successful as Garry’s Mod over the years, it’s sure to be a hit. Facepunch founder Garry Newman tweeted that he converted Half-Liffe models to Valve’s engine.

Both Facepunch and the father of the famous CSGO Cache map, FMPONE, have been very impressed with the features of the Source 2 engine in recent times. FMPONE is currently developing a mod for Half-Life: Alynx. Facepunch also decided to rewrite many parts of the Source 2 engine to serve their own needs.
Looks like my project #PolyStrike will be moved out from @DOTA2 to S&box, it’s new Garry’s mod project based on Source2
I have already initiated communication with @garrynewman and his team, I hope to be part of this project officially

With Half-Life: Alyx now stable, the Valve development team will look to other projects, maybe it will be a new feature in Dota or possibly Half-Life 3? However, if Source 2 never appears in CSGO, at least Polystrike can give some comfort to current CSGO fans.
