Borderlands 3 may be exclusive to Epic Stores, the game’s release date was accidentally revealed

A tweet from the official Borderlands account accidentally revealed Borderlands 3’s release date as September 13. The tweet appeared to have been posted by mistake and was quickly deleted. But this information was quickly captured by some fans before it disappeared from Twitter.

Gearbox uses the word “mayhem” (disorder) to describe Borderlands 3 many times, so although the game is not officially mentioned in the message, everyone knows that Mayhem refers to Borderlands 3.

September 13 is not too far off from the original October 1 hypothesis. This may be an April Fool’s joke, but giving the game a wrong release date on the game’s official account isn’t really cool – bad marketing.

According to Twitter Wario64, it looks like Borderlands 3 will also launch on the Epic Games Store. Another tweet has also been deleted, including a short video and the Epic Store logo at the bottom. This doesn’t mean it will be exclusive to Epic, but the fact that the video only features the Epic Store logo, not Steam’s, is a worrying signal.

Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford just gave us one more reason to believe that Borderlands 3 could be exclusive to the Epic Games Store. In his tweets, he said publisher 2K Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive are responsible “for all decisions on game pricing, regions, publishing partners and sales.” So, if you have a complaint, complain to the two names above.

Pitchford said he thinks “monopoly is fine when they offer a lot of advantages and are short-lived – six months for example”. However, we have not received an official confirmation yet.

As a customer, I’m happy to shop in different stores – already do! I’ve bought games from Xbox, Playstation, Switch, Steam, Origin, GOG, Humble, Uplay, Epic and other stores. To me, exclusives are fine when they come w/ advantages and when they are short – say, six months 🙂 2/3

Meanwhile, a representative from 2K Games declined to comment on the information and said they will share more about Borderlands 3 on April 3.
