If you haven’t tried Starcraft 2 yet, this is a great opportunity to enjoy this legendary game.
Starcraft 2 is one of the games at the forefront of the esports revolution. Now, Starcraft 2 will be officially free after more than half a decade of being on the market, Blizzard announced at BlizzCon.
At the annual community meeting at BlizzCon, Mike Morhaime, president of Blizzard Entertainment announced that their real-time strategy game will be free. This free version will include the first version, Wings of Liberty (including the single player campaign). If you already own Wings of Liberty, you’ll get the Heart of the Swarm single-player campaign expansion pack.
Fans will be pleased to know that players will be able to participate in ladder mode in all three parts of the game. To avoid account plowing, players must first win 10 unranked or AI matches before they can access the multiplayer ladde.
This move can be considered rather late. When Sasu became the most watched esport in early 2010, Starcraft 2 lost its place to other eSports titles like League of Legends and Dota 2. Often criticized for its lack of free play feature and the game’s price is quite expensive, the decision to free the game after nearly 7 years shows that Blizzard has listened to the complaints.
This means that the two highest-rated games in Starcraft – Brood War and Starcraft 2 – will cost nothing to play. This move can attract the attention of many fans of this classic game.
Starcraft 2 multiplayer and Wings of Liberty single-player mode can be downloaded for free starting November 14th.
