Sony has announced Astro’s Playroom, the new platformer featuring Astro from the PlayStation VR game, Astro Bot Rescue Mission. Astro’s Playroom looks like it will adopt the design philosophy from the previous game, using bright colors and cute robot characters, but removing the PlayStation VR limitation of the old game.
Astro Bot Rescue Mission is a platform game that exploits VR headsets in a way not used by many games. While Astro isn’t a PlayStation icon like the Rachet and Clank series, the game is still worth killing time in VR. And if Astro’s Playroom is as good as the first, then players will have a good time with this new installment.
And yet, the game comes pre-installed on PlayStation 5. But we don’t know if the game will support VR or not? at least at the time of publication. This can be quite regrettable given how Astro Bot Rescue Mission has helped improve PSVR.
Sony mentioned that the game will use new features from the DualSense controller, which means the game will exploit haptic feedbacks and surround sound. Haptic feedback has the ability to make the game feel more real.
Astro’s Playroom is unlikely to become Sony’s most notable name, as Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Horizon Forbidden West were also announced. Still, having the game pre-installed on consoles is a welcome move. Maybe Astro’s Playroom will let users experience all the latest features and capabilities that PS5 has to offer.
