The title of game of the year has a strong candidate.
It Takes Two is a co-op adventure game between two players from the developer Hazelight Studios, the game was officially released just 3 days ago. However, even before It Takes Two officially launched, this game achieved an impressive achievement from both critics and the gaming community. Pre-release reviews of It Takes Two have begun to be published with a score of 9/10, making it the highest-rated game of 2021.
Up to now, It Takes Two has received very positive reviews when complimented by the two largest online review aggregators. On the popular Metacritic site, It Takes Two has 88% positive reviews, while OpenCritic has 88%. Currently, those reviews make It Takes Two the top-rated PC title on Metacritic and the highest-rated overall title on OpenCritic released in 2021.
For gamers who haven’t heard of the game, It Takes Two is an adventure game designed for two-player co-op. The game requires two players to work together to overcome challenging puzzle levels. In It Takes Two, players will play as Cody and May, a married couple on the verge of divorce. Their daughter Rose caught on to this and became understandably annoyed. The surprise Cody and May must experience is that they find themselves in the bodies of two dolls Rose has created, their real human forms “sleeping”, and they are inside a ghost audiobook. Art written by Dr. Hakim, titled The Book of Love.
The goal of Dr. Hakim is for Cody and May to rebuild their relationship by going through a challenge together that sees the couple explore their home in microscopic form. The fact that the game is being well received should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with Hazelight Studios. This developer has released the co-op prison escape game A Way Out and before that is also the co-op adventure game Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Both games are very popular and focus on combining two characters to overcome challenges. Needless to say, Hazelight seems to be honing her skills with each release.
It Takes Two officially releases on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on March 26.
